(Very) Basic Market Research

Market Research Image

Market research is usually concerned with the demographics of a market, the amount and kind of competition you can expect, evaluation of what type of content and delivery the target demographic responds to etc.

For this article, I want to take the market research down a notch and present you a very simple, very basic research “method” that you should be applying on a regular basis as an online marketer. Especially if you are new to this game.

Internet Marketing Tribes

Tribal Internet Marketing

A few days ago, Darren Rowse (Pro Blogger), Chris Brogan (Trust Agents), Sonia Simone and Brian Clark (both Copyblogger) launched a new membership site called “The Third Tribe”. You’ve probably heard of it, since it made something of a splash.

This post is not another Third Tribe rant. Others have already done that better than I ever could. If you take just one thing from this post, let it be this: Go to Griz’s Third Tribe review and read it. It makes a more than excellent case and is very much worth reading.

If you take another thing from this post, then it’s a clearer and less biased overview of Internet marketing “tribes” that follows below:

twittollower: A Lesson in Marketing and Product Pricing

twittollower lessons

If you’re on a few Internet marketing mailing lists, you’ve no doubt received plenty of messages endorsing twittollower, a new twitter automation service. twittollower is not unique in what it does: Programs like Hummingbird, tweetadder and many, many more have been around for quite a long time already. But twittollower is unique in the way it’s being marketed and it’s at the same time amusing and fascinating.

Let’s have a look at what twitter automation does in general and what sets twittollower apart. Oh, and in case you’re already rolling your eyes because you can’t take another endorsement for this service: Don’t worry, this is definitely not an endorsement.

Ad-Space to Affiliate Sales: Monetization on a Sliding Scale

Yes, that's right. Bags of money.

There are countless ways of making money online and I cannot cover them all in this post. However, in terms of monetizing a website, there are four very common methods: Renting out ad-space, using AdSense or similar contextual advertising, promoting CPA offers and promoting products as an affiliate.

These four methods are arranged neatly along a sliding scale and understanding them makes for a good foundation of knowledge about website monetization in general.

So, let’s go right ahead and examine these four methods.

The Keyword Minute (How The Hell Did I Miss This?)

The Keyword Minute Image

Just today, I stumbled upon a small ebook/report by Brad Callen (the guy who made SEO Elite, Keyword Elite 2, the Article Submitter and lots of other Internet marketing goodies). This is a free, 36 page report that basically lists three quick and easy money-making tips.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Really? Some free and easy ways to make cash? What else is new?”

I know that this kind of thing is a dime a dozen (if that) and free “secret” reports are being flogged left and right. This case was a little different though, for two reasons:

1. Someone recommended it to me (someone I trust).

and

2. I’ve general had very good experiences with Brad Callen products. So I didn’t dismiss this off-hand.

To make a long story short: I downloaded the Keyword Minute, read it and was (slightly) amazed.

Yes, Callen’s software Keyword Elite 2 is pitched in the report. But there’s still really good value in there, even if you ignore the KE2 stuff. The three ideas are as simple as they are effective and somehow, they manage to be novel.

I should have gotten this report a long time ago, but somehow, I missed it. The way to get the report is to go to the KE2 sales page and wait for a few seconds. An opt-in box will pop onto the screen. Fill that out and you’ll get the Keyword Minute mailed to you.

It costs nothing and it’s good. Go for it and apply what you learn. Click here to get the Keyword Minute.

The Difference Between a Scam and a Crappy Product

Cards

Get-rich-quick products are almost synonymous with scams. Many people believe that this entire market is one big scam and that the only way to make money in it is by ripping off poor, gullible victims that believe you will show them how to get rich. Whether this is true or not is not the subject of today’s post. What I will focus on in this article is the fact that the word “scam” is very often misused and why it’s important to distinguish scams from bad products.
