In today’s review, I take a look at a new plugin called WP Split Test and as the name implies, this tool helps you set up and track split tests on your WordPress websites.

Overview

WP Split Test is a WordPress plugin which lets easily set up split-tests for posts and pages on a WordPress site. For more information on the point of all this, please check out my Split Testing Basics post.

Installation and Setup

WP Split Test installs like any other WordPress Plugin and I had no difficulties activating it. Once the plugin is activated, you’ll find a new options tab in your WordPress admin panel, from where you can set up your A/B-tests.

You can set up as many different campaigns as you like and for each campaign, you can create up to four different pages. The pages are created in a simple editor, just like the one used for creating normal WP post. If you prefer, you can compose your pages in an HTML editor and copy-paste them into the WP Split Test editor.

In other words, you have complete freedom in creating your pages. There are absolutely no restrictions imposed by the plugin. Whether you want to test small changes like different titles or different order-button colours or make completely different pages (video sales page vs. text sales page, for example), you can do it using WP Split Test.

Once you’ve created your pages, you simply grab a small code snippet and insert that into a new WordPress post. You don’t need to add anything else but that code snippet to the post. Once it’s published, the plugin will rotate the different pages for each visit to the post.

Tracking

Of course, just rotating page variations is only part of the equation for effective split-testing. You also need to be able to track conversion-rates so that you can determine which version of a page is the most profitable one. WP Split Test does click-tracking for your campaigns and interestingly, it tracks clicks within your page contents and also (separately) tracks clicks to your sidebar, navbar and footer contents. For your main page content, you can determine conversion rates simply by checking out the clicks you get to your affiliate link, order button or sign-up button.

Changes can be made on the fly, so if you see that one of your pages is a clear winner, you can give it more weight, deactivate all the other pages or make another minor change within seconds, from the plugin’s admin panel.

Overall Rating

WP Split Test is a very solid plugin. It couldn’t be easier to install and set up, it rotates pages very cleanly (I like the fact that the URL doesn’t change) and it has no negative impact on page loading times, as far as I can tell.

Can the Best Spinner live up to it’s name or is it another piece of junkware you should steer clear of? Read on to find out.

Overview

The Best Spinner is yet another article spinning tool. It’s certainly not the only one of it’s kind, but it does have some interesting features that make it stand out of the crowd. Let’s go right ahead and look at it’s main, unique selling point:

User Generated Database

When you load a text into the Best Spinner, you can select individual words and get a list of suggestions for synonyms you can replace these words with. Creating the spinning syntax is just a matter of clicking on all the synonyms you want to include.

Other article spinning programs have had similar features and it usually spells disaster for the readability of the spun texts. Just replacing individual words with synonyms is a guaranteed method for butchering an article. So, how does the Best Spinner attempt to solve this problem?

First of all, the database of alternatives is human-generated and human-prioritized. For any given word, the best Spinner will suggest words that other Best Spinner users have chosen as replacements in the past. And the more often a word has been chosen by users in the past, the higher up in the list it appears.

Secondly, TBS does not only offer alternatives for individual words, but also for phrases. Again, these alternatives are human-generated. It rarely offers alternatives for phrases of more than two or three words, but still: This is already a great step forward in the realm of semi-automated article spinning.

Finally, TBS is not only about having alternatives inserted automatically (otherwise the database would never grow), it’s also made sure that inserting alternatives for words, phrases or entire paragraphs is as easy and convenient as possible.

More Features

Apart from the basic spinning functionality, the Best Spinner has quite a few more tricks up it’s sleeve.

• Nested Spinning
  TBS fully supports unlimited nested spinning (spinning within spinning). This is a very important feature since nested spinning is perhaps the best way to increase uniqueness of an article while keeping it readable.

• Replace All
  For any word or phrase you are re-writing, you can tell TBS to apply the same variations to all the occurrences of that same word or phrase throughout the entire text.

• Favourites
  You can save variations for particular words as your favourites and have them replaced in new texts at the click of a button.

• Different Spin Syntax Formats
  TBS supports three different spin code styles that you can export your texts to, depending on which distribution software you want to use them with.

• Auto Spin
  TBS features something of an auto-spinning option by allowing you to have all available words replaced with the favourite variations from everyone in the database. This makes sure that only the most relevant and frequently used synonyms are chosen.
  The results produced by this are remarkably readable for auto-spun content, but they’re still not something I’d want to put my name on.

There’s no doubt: The Best Spinner lives up to it’s name. It’s simply the best article spinning tool I’ve ever come across. It’s very easy to use and it makes article spinning a hundred times more convenient and faster than if you were doing it manually.
That doesn’t mean it’s a magical money-maker, however. Article spinning isn’t something that will make you rich over night. It’s simply something that can be put to good use for SEO purposes and that can be a good component in your overall marketing strategy.

But this is one of the things I really like about the Best Spinner: It doesn’t claim to be a miracle cure for everything. It claims to be an awesome article spinning tool and it delivers.

While I’m generally not a big fan of article spinning, I still make use of the technique here and there and I’m still going to be testing article marketing and rewriting software. Enter the CRewriter. This is an online application that you can use to make the article spinning process a bit simpler. Best of all, this tool is completely free to use.

Summary/Conclusion

The CRewriter is a very neat tool that basically inserts the spinning syntax (curly brackets and pipes) for you. You still have to do the actual rewriting yourself and that’s a good thing, because it means no one is going to create horribly unreadable garbage like most automatic spinners produce.

Most importantly, CRewriter lets you enter alternatives for entire sentences or any amount of text you like and it supports nested spinning. If you are serious about rewriting complete articles, you’ll get the best results by starting out with spinning large sections of text and then spinning sentences and words within those variations. This will result in the best kind of unique articles, if you can keep the overview over what you’ve spun and how the variations come together.

If it could handle larger portions of text without slowing down, this would be a flawless little tool. As it is, it’s still amazing value considering that it’s free to use.

What is Web2Mayhem? That’s actually not an easy question to answer, because Web2Mayhem includes so many different things. One possible answer is to say that W2M is an all-in-one website promotion system. It includes automatic submission tools, a link-network and a syndication network, keyword research tools a link cloaking and tracking service and a complete step-by-step system for promoting websites.

Does this product deliver or is it spreading itself too thin? Read on to get the full details.

W2M is a system that has many aspects. Actually, saying that is still an understatement. Below, you find a complete feature list with a brief comment for each item. If you’d like to see some further explanations and more details, check out my Web2Mayhem videos.

• Account Creator
  The Account Creator does what it’s name implies: You enter all of your account info (desired username, password, e-mail, profile-picture etc.) and this tool goes out to 97 different websites and creates accounts for you there.
  A great feature of the Account Creator is that it also uploads a profile-picture and a short bio to all the accounts where this is possible, giving them a human touch.

• RSS Announcer
  The RSS Announcer will take any feed you specify and distribute it to 37 different RSS aggregators online.
  –
• Social Bookmarker
  This program can automatically bookmark any webpages you load into it on a total of 37 different social bookmarking sites like Diigo, Blinklist, Mixx and others.
  –
• Video Sharer
  This tool will upload your video files to a maximum of 17 different video sharing sites like YouTube, Dailymotion, Flyxia and others. Note that for many videos, it won’t make sense to submit to all 17 sites, since some of them are niche-specific and don’t accept videos on every subject.
  –
• Article Distributor
  This program submits your articles to 29 article directories online. Among the directories listed are Ezine Articles, GoArticles, Articlesbase, articledashboard and many more.
  –
• Blog Poster
  The Blog Poster is quite an interesting feature. The Account Creator will create profiles for you on 10 free blogging platforms like Blog.com, Blogger, tumblr and so on. The Blog Poster is the tool you use to submit content to all of those free blogs.
  You can use this to just submit the same articles you’re already distributing to article directories, but you can also make use of the free blogs in additional ways. After all, most of these free blogs allow you to insert links in the body texts, add pictures and videos and generally let you do a lot more with your content than what you can do on an article directory.

• PAD Submitter
  This tool submits PAD files to shareware and freeware directories. Even if you don’t have any actual programs of your own, you can take an ebook and convert that into a PAD file for submission. In this case, you probably won’t get much attention in the form of people actually downloading the files, but you’ll still get backlinks from the websites where your files are listed.
  –
• Podcast Broadcaster
  This program submits your podcast audio files to 14 different podcasting sites. Again, this is something that can get you a lot of exposure and some nice backlinks as well.
  –
• Content Spinner
  The Content Spinner is a relatively simple text-spinning application. It lets you simply mark text you want to create variations for and then manually enter those variations into predefined fields. The program will then insert the correct spinning syntax for you (and you can even choose among four different types of spin code).
  –
• Keyword Corral
  This tool lets you import data from the Google keyword tool and filter and sort it according to what you are looking for. It’s a pretty solid tool and a good addition to the Web2Mayhem system, but it does require quite a bit of manual labour, compared to high-end solutions like Keyword Elite 2 or Market Samurai.
  –
• Web Page Analyzer
  The Web Page Analyzer will check some on-page stats on your site and compare them to the top listed pages for a keyword you specify. You’ll get a rundown of keyword densities, occurrence of the keyword in title, header and META tags etc. The tool can also be used to analyze competitor’s pages before you even enter into the race for ranking for particular keyword.
  –
• Note that for all the submissions that have captcha protection, you can integrate Decaptcher into W2M, if you have an account there (Decaptcher is a paid service).

Online Applications

• Syndicate Kahuna
  The Syndicate Kahuna is a network of blogs that you can submit content to. Similar to article directories and the free blogs, this is one more source of backlinks and traffic for your website.
  The only drawback is that you have to spin your text in order to get a good number of submissions (a non-spun article will not be submitted and the more you spin, the more submissions you are eligible for). After I plugged one of my blogs into the Kahuna and started receiving submissions from other members, I came to the conclusion that this is a big flaw in the system: Most of the articles I received were the kind of unreadable rubbish that auto-spinning software produces.
  –
• PAD Software Submitter
  In the W2M members area, you’ll find another PAD submitter which is separate from the desktop software one. It does the same basic thing, but submits to different directories.
  –
• Link Exchange System
  Also part of W2M is a very neat link exchange network. All you need to do is plug a script (or WordPress plugin) into a page on your website (this will be your links-page) and specify your niche. The script will then automatically create a list of links out to other sites relevant to your niche and in return, you get links back from other websites. The system makes sure that all the links are one-way and you get to pick the anchor-texts of the links pointing to your site.
  While links from link-pages may not be terribly valuable, the W2M link-exchange is the easiest and fastest way to get a couple of custom anchor-text backlinks that I’ve ever seen.
  –
• Collaborative Blogs
  As a Web2Mayhem member, you get the option to create mini-blogs on two collaborative blog sites. You can get your own category or subdomain on these blogs and have the advantage of your articles and links appearing on a frequently updated, aged, high-PR and frequently crawled web-property.
  –
• Web 2.0 Co-op
  This is a system that organizes the mutual promotion of social media content among the members. Here’s how it works: You can post “jobs” and see other members’ “jobs”. A “job” could be giving someone’s site a digg or a thumbs-up, rating and commenting on someone’s Squidoo lens or bookmarking a webpage for someone. For each completed job, you get credits which allow you to post your own jobs and thus get your own Web 2.0 content promoted.
  While you will never get thousands of diggs or stumbles just from the Web 2.0 Co-op, the system can give your content a great, initial boost that can make a big difference.
  –
• Redirect Kahuna
  This application is a link cloaking/redirection service that includes detailed tracking.
  –
• Keyword Research Tools
  Additionally to the offline tool (Keyword Corral), there are several online tools you can use for keyword research.

The System

If you look at that feature list and think that it all might be a little too much, you’re not alone. When I first saw how extensive W2M is, I expected the whole thing to be pretty chaotic and thought it would take me days just to learn my way around all the tools.

However, Web2Mayhem also comes with a step-by-step system and instructions on how to use it. The system simply runs you through several phases for promoting your website going from finding a niche and keyword to the initial promotion phase and all the way to the “maintenance” phase, which is when your site is ranking #1 in the search results and all you have to do is make sure it stays there.

If you just follow this system, you will be introduced to every one of the features of W2M one by one and there is a document and a video tutorial for each one.

Even though there is a ton of training material to go through, it is very well structured. The only thing I can complain about is that the video presentations could be better, but that’s really nit-picking.

As for the system itself: I found it to be very solid and fairly easy to implement. There’s no doubt that following this system will get your pages ranked. The system is nothing revolutionary in itself, it’s just that the W2M software lets you do a lot more promotion and link-building than you would ever be able to do manually.

So, What’s Bad About It?

I’ve been saying an awful lot of good things about Web2Mayhem so far and I’m starting to feel uncomfortable. I hate it when something I write starts looking like a pre-sale.

So, let me put my critic-hat on and tell you some things that could be improved in W2M:

• Flexible Account Management
  W2M has only one set of user-data per account profile. This means that if you already have an account on GoArticles that you would like to submit to and you have another account on articledashboard, but with a different username, W2M can’t submit to both those accounts from the same profile. You’ll have to create separate profiles or create new accounts with identical username/PW combinations.
  It would be nice if there was an “I already have an account here” option.
  –
• All Browser Submissions
  All of the submissions are done in an automated browser window. The only problem with this is that it’s a bit slow, at times. The system works quite well, though, so there’s me nit-picking again.
  –
• Automatic E-Mail Confirmation
  Currently, you have to manually go through all of your mails and confirm the account creations. No fun.
  There are tools that can automatically go through your mails and confirm them. From what I read in the W2M forums, they might already be working on such a solution.

Fluff-o-Meter

Again, I’m always careful about being too enthusiastic about the products I test, but I really have to say that Web2Mayhem is one hell of a fluff-free zone. The training material gets straight to the point and the entire system is focused on getting results. There’s none of the “I made $X in only X days and you can too!” bullshit that you so often find with make-money-online stuff. It’s all abaut learning how to do things and then doing them. No filler.

My inbox has not suffered much from signing up to W2M. I do get occasional mails and most of them are at least somewhat promotional in nature but, and this is a big BUT, they usually contain some really good value like webinar and interview invites (and those webinars and interviews are well worth listening to).

Promotion + value = list I don’t mind being on.

Overall Rating

The core of Web2Mayhem consists of a very good collection of auto-submission tools and a solid, well laid-out system to follow for promoting your website(s). Just to be clear: You will still have to do work. To make full use of Web2Mayhem, you should ideally have at least one (better several) monetizable sites in place and be willing to write articles and make videos and maybe audio content on a regular basis.

What Web2Mayhem does, is take that content that you create and make the absolute most of it by spreading it far and wide across the interwebs. And if you’ve ever wondered how to best coordinate all of the different properties to which you submit content, you’ll find a very good answer to that in the W2M training manual and videos.

This is for you, if:

• You have money-making websites already and want to get more out of them.
• You know how to build and monetize a website, but lack the tools and/or knowledge to get them ranked in search results.
• You already create content like articles, videos or podcasts and want to ramp up the results you see from them.

This is not for you, if:

• You are completely new to online marketing.
• You have never created a website before.

To sum it all up, Web2Mayhem is a powerful system with powerful tools. Work with it and you will be rewarded.

Video 1: Overview of All the W2M Features

As the title says, in this video I run through all of the features included in Web2Mayhem. These features include an automatic account creator, an RSS submitter, an article submitter, a social bookmarking tool, a video distribution tool, a tool that automatically posts to a whole series of free blogging platforms and a PAD (shareware/freeware) submitter.
There is also a blog network, a link-exchange system and a bunch of keyword research tools that you get access to when you sign up.

NOTE: Shortly after I finished the video, a new submission tool for podcasts was added.

In this video, I demonstrate the semi-automatic account creation process. You’ll see exactly how the program is set up and what steps it goes through to create your accounts. What’s particularly interesting about this feature is that (where applicable), Web2Mayhem will upload a profile picture and a personal bio to your accounts, which instantly makes them look much more appealing and “real”.

In this video, I do a “live” screencast of the automatic submission process. I chose to do a submission to the free blogging platforms since that’s a relatively short list and watching the run doesn’t get too boring. Submissions to the article directories are handled in the exact same way, as are other types of submissions.

One of the downloadable tools in Web2Mayhem is the Content Spinner. In this video, I give a quick demonstration of how this little program can make article spinning a bit easier and quicker than if you do it manually. Even though I’m not much of a “spinner”, I think this is a nice addition to W2M.

This video goes into a little more detail on how the link-exchange system in Web2Mayhem works. Definitely worth taking a look at, as this system is perhaps the easiest way of getting a few targeted backlinks that I’ve ever seen.

The Syndicate Kahuna is a blog network that you can plug into as a member of Web2Mayhem. It offers a further possibility for distributing your articles and has a lot of potential. However, it hasn’t really been working for me and in the video, I explain what I believe the big problem with this system is.

This video is about the so-called Web 2.0 Coop service in W2M. This is a very interesting feature that allows W2M users to exchange “jobs” on social media sites with each other. For example, you can give diggs, thumbs-up and ratings to other users’ content on Web 2.0 sites and in return get the same kind of mini-promotion from them for your content. I really like how this is set up in a way that it can’t be abused for spamming purposes.

This video is about the Web Page Analyzer, an on-page SEO analysis tool that you can also download and use as a Web2Mayhem member. This program can give you some feedback on how your on-page factors like title-tags, meta keywords and keyword density are faring compared to the top listed pages for your targeted keyword.

Automation software for Internet marketing purposes: It’s all the rage right now, and has been for quite a while. There are numerous offers for programs that will automate all kinds of tasks from distributing articles, videos or bookmarks to completely creating or re-writing content (shudder). Look at a few discussion threads about automation software in a forum and you’ll quickly realize that bots are at the centre of many a heated debate. Some say that automation is all rubbish and never really works like it should and others swear by it.

In this article, I introduce three concepts that are essential to understanding the use and misuse of automation bots.

   I just want to make that clear since it might mean that I’m biased towards bots. I have to also mention that I only use bots for a couple of tasks; others I do manually. More on this in the article.

Here are the three things you need to know about automation software:

There Is Always a Failure Rate

This is just something you need to be aware of, when you are using automatic submission software.

I bring this up because every so often, you’ll encounter someone in a forum complaining that the software “doesn’t work half the time” or something along those lines.

One part of the equation is how well you set the automation software up, one part is how well it’s programmed and another part is simply how many of the sites the bot goes to have changed.

Every time a website changes something in their layout or login/submission process or whatever, there’s a significant chance that the bot will get stuck on that site, somewhere. If you’re using a well-supported program, the next update will fix the problem… until the site changes something again.

This doesn’t mean that the software “isn’t working”. Automation isn’t about hitting it right 100% of the time. It’s about hitting way more and way more often than you could manually.

Value Output versus Effort Input

The value you get back from any kind of SEO or website promotion always needs to be looked at in relation to the effort you have to put into it.

If you can get a backlink from a really high-PR authority site in your niche, then that’s great. But if it takes you hours upon hours of work, spread out over several days or even weeks to get that one backlink, it might not be worth it at all.

The question is: What else could you have accomplished in that time? Maybe you could have added value to your website, built a free giveaway product to start building a list, done some personal branding or obtained half a dozen slightly lower-quality links in that same time?

On the other hand, you could spend days submitting an article to all of the hundreds of article directories out there, logging into twenty different social bookmarking sites and submitting your bookmarks, going to link-directories and submitting your URL etc. etc.
Here, the situation is reversed: You’re spending all this time for something that has very little value (e.g. nofollow links from a PR1 bookmarking site). If you could spend that same time to get just one really good link…

You get the idea.

Automation software can be used to shift this balance between the value of your promotional work and the effort you put into in your favour.

A bot can do low- to mid-value website promotion in bulk, running in the background. This way, obtaining 100 low-value backlinks from directories takes the same amount of time as obtaining just one such link (fill the forms once, then start the bot).

If used correctly, what automation software does is leverage your time. You take a certain amount of time to set everything up initially. Then you take a bit of time to get things started and once the bot is up and running, you can get exponential returns on that initial time spent.

You’re Still the One With the Brain

The more automatic a software tool is, the more easily and moronically it can be abused. Despite what countless sales-pages would have you believe, automatic software is not the solution to all your Internet marketing problems and it most certainly doesn’t do all the work for you.

These programs are simply tools that make your job easier. The quality you get out of them depends greatly on how you wield these tools.

If I give you a chainsaw, you won’t suddenly have lots of firewood readily available and trees won’t fall as soon as you approach them. But turning a tree into usable firewood will be a lot easier with the chainsaw than if you had only your bare hands or an axe to use. You still have to know what you’re doing with that chainsaw to get results, though.

Admittedly, the ridiculous overpromises littering sales-pages for automation software are at least partially to blame for the fact that in the online marketing landscape, there are quite a few people standing next to trees, complaining that they aren’t falling by themselves even though they have all those shiny new chainsaws at home.

As you can imagine, I have some reviews of automation software coming up in the near future. I’ve been experimenting with several programs for quite a while now and I’ve been seeing some very interesting results (and non-results).

Here’s another video I made after a reader made a suggestion to me. Someone recommended the SEO Quake Firefox plugin and asked me if I could make a video about it. I took some time to play around with the tool and liked it quite a bit. Here’s the video I ended up making:

The plugin is mainly a website analysis tool, although it comes with a few features that go beyond that. While I always try to show both sides of a story, I can’t really find anything to complain about with SEO Quake. It’s fast and functional, you can easily deactivate it an re-activate it (so it’s data and toolbar doesn’t annoy you during regular surfing) and it’s completely free.

Search engine optimization is a multi-layered and complex task. While there are many ways to do all the necessary research and backlinking for free, a decent tool can go a long way towards making an SEO’s job easier. SEO Elite v4.0 is such a tool designed by Bryxensoft. It offers the user a whole slew of features designed to make ranking well in search engine results an easier and more transparent job. Read this extensive review to find out what the strengths and weaknesses of this tool are.

Overview

SEO Elite used to be a lot more expensive than it is now, at the time of writing this. The price has come down over time since the tool is no longer the newest hype. But it’s age doesn’t mean it’s less useful than it ever was.

What Does it Do?

The program consist of eight different “projects”, each of which is a separate tool. If you want to see exactly what each of these features have to offer, check out my extensive videos here.

Here is a run-down of all the features:

• Project 1: Backlink Analysis
  The backlink analysis tool in SEO Elite will try to find all the backlinks pointing to any site you specify and gathers very detailed information about these links. On the one hand, this can be useful for analysing your own websites and seeing if the links you are building are being registered. More interestingly, you can use this tool to analyze your competitor’s websites. The analysis tool shows you exactly how many links they have, what PR the linking sites have, from how many different IP addresses they are coming and whether they have “nofollow” attributes.

• Project 2: Finding Potential Link Partners
  Based on a keyword or a competitors website, project number two in SEO Elite seeks out websites in your niche that might be potential link-partners. Not only that, it also seeks out the contact-info for each site and you can submit e-mails requesting a link exchange to all of the addresses found, directly in SEO Elite. Obviously, this could be abused as a spam tool to a certain extent, but if it’s used wisely then this module can certainly be useful.
  You can also use project 2 to search for link directories. Since directories (apart from DMOZ and the Yahoo directory) are usually unable to provide valuable backlinks, I did not pay much attention to this feature.

• Project 3: “Allintitle”, “Allinanchor” and “Allintext” Search
  This is quite a simple little feature: You can do “allintitle”, “allinanchor” and “allintext” searches for any amount of keywords you like. SEO Elite then lists the natural (broad search) results vs. the “allin-“ search specified. This is just another way of analyzing competition strength in detail. For example, you might find several backlink-strong websites listed for a keyword you have your eye on. If an “allintitle” search shows that most of those sites aren’t optimized for your exact keyword, you can get an idea of how to compete against them.
  This is really the most rudimentary of SEO Elite’s features, since the “allin-“ searches can be very easily performed within Google as well. However, it’s not a bad option to have.

• Project 4: Check Backlinks from Linking Partners
  This feature is useful if you are exchanging links with many different partners, assuming that you are using link-pages. The backlink checker in SEO Elite follows every link on a specified link-page and then checks if the sites you are linking to are still linking back. You can also set it up for three-way links (i.e. checking if the partners are linking back to a third site).
  Since I don’t use link-pages and I believe they are practically valueless nowadays, this is a bit of a non-feature for me.

• Project 5: Track Your Rankings
  This is my favourite feature in SEO Elite: Project number five is a great rank-tracking tool. Enter as many domains as you want to monitor and all the keywords you are trying to rank for. The program will then go to the major search engines and search for your pages in the listings. It searches 1000 results deep and reports where each of your web-pages is ranking for the keywords you are targeting. It also displays the results in a graph so that you can easily see your rankings change over time.
  This feature is excellent and in my opinion, anyone serious about SEO needs to use some sort of rank tracking tool.

• Project 6: Check Indexation
  Project 6 is another quite simple feature: Specify one or several websites and this tool goes to the search engines (Google, Yahoo and Bing) and checks how many pages of your site are indexed on each one. Just like project 3, this is something that can easily be done manually. However, it’s quicker to do it in SEO Elite for several sites in one go and it’s a nice feature to have.
  -
• Project 7: Find Authority Sites
  As far as I can tell, the original idea behind this feature was to find high-value link-partners. Here’s how it works: You specify a keyword and the program looks up the top ten listed sites for that keyword (in the search engine of your choice). Then it looks for sites linking to several of those top sites. You could then try to get links from those sites (the ones linking to the top-ranked sites).
  In practice, for money-making sites, I find that most of the sites found are sites where you build your own links – article directories, DMOZ and Yahoo directory, web 2.0 sites etc. This doesn’t render the project useless. It’s simply another way to estimate competition strength for your keyword (e.g. lots of Yahoo and DMOZ-listings = bad).
  -
• Project 8: Article Submission
  Article submissions are a great way to build some backlinks and get some traffic (if done properly). SEO Elite’s article submitter is practically identical to the one I’ve already written a review on (also: videos). It is a semi-automatic submitter and as such, requires your presence to do the submissions. Not so great. It also doesn’t let you do any article spinning, which is too bad.
  In short, there are too many superior alternatives for project 8 to really be worth a closer look.

Is it Useful?

Out of the eight available tools, I doubt anyone will really use each one on a regular basis. In fact, to me personally, projects 2, 4 and 8 are pretty much useless.

Projects 3 and 6 are nice to have, but I wouldn’t buy anything just to do some stuff that I can do almost as easily by typing a simple command in Google.

That leaves us with projects 1, 5 and 7 to make or break a recommendation for SEO Elite.
Projects 1 and 7 make for the most automatic, quick and in-depth competition analysis I have ever done. It’s one thing to know traffic volume and an estimate of competing pages (which is the info you can get for free from Google) but it’s a completely different story to know all the backlinks, IP diversity, anchor-texts, and PR passed to your competitor’s sites. You can also dig deeper for each site, to find out things like domain age, keyword density, Alexa rankings and much more.

In just a few minutes, SEO Elite can give you an incredibly detailed overview of what your competition is doing to achieve those top listings. Even as a learning tool, this is invaluable. Check out the results for any competitive niche, go take a look at the top ranking sites and run them through projects 1 and 7. You can learn so much about SEO and website ranking, just from doing this a few times that it alone almost justifies buying the product.

Project number 5 is a solid rank-tracking tool. I like that it goes very deep into the results to find your sites, so even if you are just starting out with a website and still listed on rank 900 or thereabouts, the position will be picked up and you can watch the progression of your pages through the ranks. Rank-tracking is very important for good SEO. Apart from the obvious benefit, it can also be a great motivator since it gives you a more direct feedback on whether or not your backlinking and website promotion efforts are paying off, compared to just watching your traffic stats.

Ratings

Spam-Factor

The spam-factor is almost non-existent, here. I do get the occasional mail from Brad Callen and most of the mails are sales-pitches. BUT, the mails are infrequent, non-pushy and every now and then there is a genuinely great offer to be found among the mails (like heavy rebates on Bryxensoft products). I rate this a two out of five Spams since you do get salesy mails but they are very non-annoying.

Scam-Scale

No scamminess to speak of. You will be shown an upsell-page once you order SEO Elite, but it’s not terribly pushy and it’s not of the annoying kind (“what you just bought is actually crap, buy this instead!”). I rate this a one out of five on the scam-scale.

Overall Rating

SEO Elite has some non-essential features (at least, for my use), but the ones it gets right are absolutely brilliant. As described above, I simply love what the backlink analysis can do and rank tracking is absolutely essential. There is another factor that makes me recommend SEO Elite: The price. A one-time payment of under $50 is really not that much to ask for such a piece of software. I know I’ve spent that kind of money on less valuable things…
If you are already making money with affiliate programs, you know you can earn this kind of money back very quickly. If you are a complete newbie, you might want to wait until you’ve made your first few sales and then use some program like SEO Elite to ramp up your efforts.
Overall, SEO Elite gets a four out of five from me.

This is for you if:

• You are looking for a good and easy way to do in-depth analysis of market-competition
• You want to keep track of your and your competitors rankings automatically
• You want to keep tabs on your indexation and backlink building efforts

This is not for you if:

• You already have a good rank-tracking tool
• …and have competition analysis covered
• The price is not something you can get back quickly with your marketing efforts/existing sites
